Shimokitazawa is full of secondhand stores, but not all of them hit the sweet spot between curation and chaos. I stumbled into TreFac Style (Treasure Factory) while walking around Shimokita, and I’m glad I did. Instead of endless racks of meh pieces, it felt like someone with actual taste went through everything first. If you’re short on time or hate digging, this place makes secondhand shopping way easier.
What’s at TreFac Style?
You’ll find everything here and there’s great selections for both men and women, from vintage jackets and Y2K denim to designer pieces. They also buy clothes, so if you have clothes that you want to get rid of to refresh your wardrobe, this is the place to do it (you can do so at the nearby 2nd Street Reuse shop in Shimokita as well) – just make sure they’re worth selling. 😛
What’s good about this store is that it doesn’t feel overwhelming and everything seems thoughtfully selected and worth a second look.
If you ask which one stood out to me the most – it’ll have to be their shoe section! There are some really good condition Nike, Air Jordan, New Balance, Adidas and Converse sneakers in unique designs and stunning colors, and their boots? If you’re into shoes, you’re gonna wanna check it out here.
As for the prices – I think with the many thrift stores I already went to in Tokyo that sell used branded clothing, it’s safe to say that thrifting in Tokyo isn’t really equal to cheap prices – this is Japan after all, and the quality, design, brand, curation, and uniqueness of each piece make up for the higher price. Given that their prices are on the higher end, they still have dirt cheap items by their clearance just out front where you can grab items at just ¥280 – it’s worth a quick browse before heading in and the earlier you visit this store, of course the better choices you’ll have at the clearance rack.
How to get to TreFac Style Shimokita
TreFac Style is located at 2 Chome-32-8 Kitazawa, Setagaya City, Tokyo, just a 5-minute walk from Shimokitazawa Station East Exit. They’re open daily from 11 AM to 9 PM – check out TreFac Style Shimokita’s website for updates and sale events prior to your visit.
