While wandering through the vintage thrifter’s paradise in Tokyo’s Shimokitazawa I stumbled upon this quaint trading card game store called Dorama – and in a tight street that’s highly concentrated with second-hand vintage clothes shops left and right, seeing this TCG store amongst the sea of fashionwear was a heavy contrast to Shimokita’s overall indie boho vibe and it definitely stood out. Was I suddenly in Akihabara? 😛
I went in to explore and check it out.

What’s in Dorama
Dorama Trading Card (トレカ Toreka) Store is a no-frills shop in Shimokitazawa that specializes in Japanese trading cards, with a heavy focus on Yu‑Gi‑Oh!, One Piece, Shadowverse: Evolve and, Duel Masters, and Pokémon TCG singles and packs (they also used to buy and sell video games). It occasionally stocks other card games too, but the focus is clearly on these five. And unlike the nearby Book Off store in Shimokita which is a general store that might carry a few cards, Dorama is built specifically for collectors and players.

Here you’ll find rows of glass cases filled with both used and new cards, and you even bring in your own cards to sell (buy and sell) – they also have trading card vending machine gacha with prices at ¥300, ¥500, and ¥1,000 a pop. Dorama has its own gameplay duel space with up to 40 seats at the back that lets you trade or battle with locals for free, and this would be a great experience that’ll give you a taste of Japan’s trading card game or TCG culture. The store caters mainly to locals and serious collectors and compared to more polished or tourist-heavy card stores in Akihabara or Nakano, Dorama is quieter and more relaxed, with a hyper-local vibe.
